He might not have been the right demographic for Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber fans in the audience, and sadly his brother Noel didn’t show up, so he had to - rather surprisingly - duet with Coldplay. But Liam Gallagher stole the show at last night’s One Love Manchester concert. Or at least, his coat did.

Striding on to the stage as a late surprise performer - the penultimate act in the show - he wore a classic Gallagher get up of longline parka, slim-fit jeans and beige desert boots.

So far, so Liam. But rather than sporting the trademark mod khaki green for his overcoat, this not entirely weather-appropriate offering was eye-catchingly hi-vis orange.

Such was the public interest that Google experienced a spike for the search term “orange parka” at 21.48 - right at the time that Liam was onstage.

Twitter responded enthusiastically: “Nothing says defiance like Liam Gallagher in an orange parka holding a tambourine,” said one fan, while another offered: “If Corbyn walks out the front door with an orange parka on tomorrow morning, the election is over.”

The orange parka is now sure to be a massive hit at Glastonbury later this month, what with its rainproof nature and the handy bonus of allowing the wearer to be spotted easily in a crowd.

Fans of the Kenny from South Park look won’t be able to pick up one of Liam’s Sassafras parkas from Manchester mecca Oi Polloi (£467, above) - which also has a shop in Soho’s Marshall Street - since it is currently sold out.

But Liam’s own Carnaby Street-based label, Pretty Green, has a shorter nylon anorak in a fetching shade of tangerine (£130) as well as a host of more traditional parkas in shades of green and navy for men who don’t feel the need to be so flamboyant with their outer-wear.

Alternatively, head to Yoox.com for MSGM’s version with its hi-vis panels (£690) and Fairplay’s hooded jacket (£89), or to Topman for Rains’ parka (£95).

Of course, nothing will top Liam’s “Ikea monkey” sheepskin coat as far as the Internet is concerned, but the orange parka definitely comes a close second.
